I lie awake again at night
Your jagged breaths punch the blackness
My cheek lies against curls that smell faintly of pizza and laughter
Your small back curled to my chest
The chest holding the heart you've heard from the other side
I curl your soft chubby fingers in my tired palm
So much uncertain
so much unknown
But at this moment I know peace
